Changing Your Facebook Settings: Email Notifications

Last week, I spoke with the ladies of Women’s Global Network on Understanding Social Media. I promised to blog about basic Social Media for Business over the upcoming weeks and give tips.
SICK OF RECEIVING FACEBOOK EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS?
Now that your personal and/or business Facebook pages are set up, you’ve probably noticed the email account associated with Facebook has a tendency to fill itself with status updates of everyone you know on Facebook.
If you’re tired of receiving email updates, here’s how to change the account if you DON’T want to receive unwanted status email:
In the NEW Facebook:
-Click SETTINGS (at top right)
-Click NOTIFICATIONS
-Move down the list and choose what notifications you want to keep on and which you want to turn off.
It’s easy!

You probably feel overloaded with information, but don’t worry. Take time to process the information as you explore and discover. Shoot me an email if you have any questions. I’ve found an MSNBC article that voices your frustrations (see below)!
As promised, I’ll be giving Social Media tips over the next few weeks. Here’s the first:
I just came across this New York Times blog post Setting the Record Straight Online by one of my favorite New York Times authors, Marci Alboher. You can also poke around her personal blog HeyMarci.com.
Check it out to find out how you can use Social Media to do easy damage control for either yourself or your business. After reading Marci’s article, please see how the author used her blog to quickly turn the situation around in her favor.
Go right to the article itself: Social Media Overload by Eve Tahmincioglu. The article gives EXCELLENT tips on which Social Networks are worth your time and those that are not. Really, concentrate on just one two networks, Facebook and/or LinkedIn.
I pulled this quote from Tahmincioglu’s article, which I’m sure will resonate with you:
“Trust me. In researching this column, I signed up for as many of the networks out there as I could and what did I get? A headache.”
Keep checking back for more Social Media tips!
